Creating a Blog on a Website – How Do I Start a Blog?

“How do I start a blog?” I can not tell you how many times I asked this question in the past year. In fact, not too long ago I was even asking, “What is a blog?”. I come across many people who are asking the exact same questions. You may be surprised to find that creating a blog on a website really is not a difficult thing to do. If you already have a website, perhaps an online store or any other informational site, then a blog could be the perfect complement to what you currently have in place. If you do not have a website but want to create a web presence for yourself, then creating a blog on a website is an easy an inexpensive (usually free) way for you to accomplish this.

A blog, quite simply, is an online journal. So if the term “blog” intimidates you, then think journal or diary. Once you start a blog, you can add text, pictures, videos, links to other sites, music, audio files, and other fun content. These additions are referred to as “posts”. You “post” information like you might post something on a bulletin board, only your bulletin board is a website. You can do all of the posting yourself or you can allow others to post on your blog. You can also allow for comments on your posts.

One of the easiest ways to start is by going to a site that provides free blog websites. You can find them by simply doing an internet search for “free blog websites”. You’ll find a few quickly and easily. Once you sign up for a free account, most of these sites have tutorials on how to get started. Most of them are very helpful and you’ll find that picking a theme and making your first post are relatively easy things to do- probably much easier than you think. Adding video, audio, and images is a bit tougher, but not much. Follow the tutorials and you’ll get through it just fine.

Creating a blog on a website can add a great dimension to any online store because a blog allows your customer to actually get to know you. When it really comes down to it, people will do business with people that they like. So giving your customer the opportunity to get to know you will result in an overall improvement to your business. Allowing them to contribute to your blog will almost guarantee you a long term relationship with that customer. If you haven’t created a blog yet, my advice is to start today!
